CBV delete when cold outside

I've done this on two cars in warmer weather. I've drained coolant, swapped the guts, and then run distilled only a couple times before switching to G05. In the cold, I can't run distilled for long. I could possibly run it just long enough to open the heater core and then let it cool some before draining. How much does it need to cool?
Otherwise, is the best option to just catch what spills from the guts swap and top off with Dexcool or whatever is in there until spring? This car hasn't had much use over the past few years and is new to me. Otherwise, the only option is to swap in a working CPV for now?
With the MacKay hose no longer available are the only option the non-US Saab hoses and D088 silicone hoses?
