Excellent write-up! We have 3 Tech2s, one old original and 2 clones. our experience has been that there is no difference other than the clones have a slightly brighter display. Our original was old enough that candi wasn't available. We opted to try a clone with the candi module when we needed to interface to newer Saabs. Note that the 9000s and 900s require a different software than the 9-3s and 9-5s. There is space for 2 pcmcia cards in the Tech2. I won't go into creating one but it's not hard. The Tech2 can have both installed and you toggle between them at power-up. The Candi module is used on all the 9-3ss variants and later 9-5s. The Tech2 will tell you if you need it but I believe it's from 2006 and up. TIS2000 is only needed for 9-3ss variants and software downloads. You will need it to do much on a 9-3ss beyond reading dtcs.
