Heater Control Valve Posted by Chip Fichot [Email] (#2597) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Chip Fichot) on Tue, 11 Jun 2019 07:08:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2003 9-5 27K miles - 3rd/spare vehicle
Got a low coolant message on SID
Found leak; couldn't see where it was coming from.
Added some coolant and took it to a local mechanic who specializes in European cars (closest indy is 60 miles away)
Did not get low coolant message in the 9 miles I drove (with A/C turned OFF)
Mechanic diagnosed to "Heater Control Valve" on the firewall.
Based on what I've read on this forum, this sounds like the heater bypass valve (am I correct that it only leaks when the A/C is on?) and is a typical issue with these cars.
Mechanic says that it could just need the valve ($70 part) or it may need the whole 'valve assembly' which comes with hoses, etc. which would be $500 or so.
Either way, labor is the same.
Since I don't need it in a hurry, I told him to take it one step at a time ; not trying to be cheap but also not wanting to spend $$ I don't have to.
Suggestions/thoughts/comments?
TIA
