Don't use Permatex blue on an o-ring. Use a silicone grease like Super Lube. I bought a tub of the stuff on Amazon, and I use it to lubricate just about everything that's made out of rubber or plastic. I had originally bought it because it's food safe and I needed to re-grease our KitchenAid mixer, so it has lots of uses. Apparently it, or another version of it, is used to grease railroad tracks.
