OK. I got two OEM used level switches and installed them. I got a used ballast from an '04 and two new bulbs. I put it all together. The recent ballast is in the left side. It talks to Tech 2 and I clear codes. I had open codes for BOTH switches that were still stored from before I put the used OE ones in.
I move the OE ballast to the right side headlight. It will NOT communicate with the Tech 2. The bulbs I took out were actually in pretty good shape. I put the right side old bulb back in. Still no talking between tech 2 and right AHL. Grrr. I give up.
I take the car for a drive. Back out of the drive onto the street before turning on the headlights. No warning light - yay. I get onto a slightly heavier traveled road and the light comes back on. Grrr. But the headlights don't go to full down as when the system completely malfunctions. I turn onto a bumpy road and then once out of the bumps the light turns off! OK. Maybe the system likes the data it's seeing.
I drive about another five miles and the light stays off. Well, as long as the system stays like this I'll be happy.
What an EXPENSIVE ordeal:
New Osram D1S Bulbs: $86
One clean and warrantied ballast: $125
Replacement OE level switches both front and rear: $130
OE quality front extender cable from level switch to harness: $70
Total: $411.
Tech 2 to try to program / calibrate said lights: $360. Can't really count the Tech 2 though. I'll use it for MANY other SAAB related things.
There is something to be said for plain Halogen lights.
I drove a '17 Porsche 911 C4S this past weekend and not only do the lights go up and down to follow the road, they steer too. I can't imagine calibrating those.
