Hi guys. 2003 V6 Arc. 285,000
Was having seepage that periodically resulted in the low coolant light, and that turned out to be the hose from the bottom of the coolant reservoir to the tank leaking underneath the clamp. Interestingly it would not show up under a pressure test, only when at temperature and under pressure.
A few weeks later, the car turned 285,000, and promptly gave me the ‘Fill Coolant Reservoir’ message (not the softer ‘Add coolant’ that I occasionally got with the prior issue) as I exited the Lincoln Tunnel I to Manhattan.
Negotiated my way to a pull over spot at 10th and 41st and popped the hood. Tank is dry as a bone and poking around, the top hose has come off the upper radiator fitting. Jagged edge and not much fitting left pointed to a fitting failure.
I was able to get enough of a bite on the fitting to reattach the hose. A friendly cabbie garage helped me out with coolant (1-1/4 gals) and I made it to my Indy for a radiator. I got lucky and it sure beat waiting 2 hours for a pricey tow!
Can’t complain. 165k on first radiator and 125k on the replacement. Let’s see what we get out of this one.
