About 18 months back I gave away "Silver Sal", our 1999 9-5 SE 2.3t, and before I did, I replaced the intermediate axle bearing. With one axle out, I decided to pull the driver's side too, and see how they were doing. At 231K there was virtually no slop in the OE SAAB CV axle joints. I cleaned them thoroughly, and rebooted them with new grease - almost good as new! Don't run your axles very long with torn boots, or re-booting may not be possible.
I would avoid the new axles, since I see too many negative comments on them - many not even well balanced when installed, and wearing out quickly (this board, another SAAB board, and a BMW owner forum for my 325xi). Some cutomers might have good luck, but I think the almost absurdly low pricing matches the likely levels of quality / quality control.
Just my personal observations & opinions.
