Thanks Mark for insightful posts, as they helped me a lot in fixing the many daily needs of my 2001 AERO.
As my boots (both trans-side) are torn and leaky, I'd need Your input once again: I did this same job on my previous 9000 but on the 9-5 I really can't extract the axle+tripod trom the carrier, as it seems internally locked "somehow"). My idea is to leave the carrier in place and just pull the axle, (on the bench)remove the circlip, extract tripod, slip new boot in and (as Haynes says) invert the removal procedure to have the things back in place but...
...tripod seems stuck, not freely removable from carrier. What did-I do wrong?
Your feedback could help me a lot.
