CV joint/boot/axle

well as would be expected, about 3 months after I mention that I have never replaced CV joint on a 9-5 I have two that have ripped boots. Both are still quiet but slinging grease all over.

so what's the common wisdom?
- replace just the boot? (~$25 at eeuro)
- replace just the outer CV and boot? (~$240 at eeuro)
- replace the whole axle? ($70-$100 at eeuro, new not reman)

one is on a 2008 SC with 170k mi
the other is on my '99 base model with 210k mi

its easy and cheap to replace the entire axle but it seems so wasteful.

what would you do?
