9-5 starting issue

Haven't been here in a long time because the car (an '03 Linear wagon with 198K) is so reliable and I know how to deal with most stuff anyway. My wife is usually in the 9-5 but I had it in Nova Scotia this past week and experienced what she had mentioned: slow starting.
It fires up, but just takes more turns than usual to get there, as in 5 to 9 instead of 2-4. One day in the rain it took 10-15 turns to start. Wasn't sure it would!
The battery is 1 year old. Alternator seems to be charging OK. Fuel filter has maybe 25K on it, fuel pump has 60K. Plugs are recent; maybe 15K miles on the longer life NGK plugs. The problem happens whether engine is cold or hot, so it's not the CPS. It improved briefly after I removed and retightened the battery cables, but there is more going on.
Twice the car started (cold) on less than 4 cylinders, but they all came on line in a second or so.
Other than this, the car runs fine, gives me 27-28 mpg at 75-80.
The DI has been on the car a long time. I don't know when I last replaced it, what I think is the date on the DI sticker is 160XX, so it may be one I pulled out of my daughter's '00 -3 (don't remember!). I have two others that are older. I redid the grease on the plug boots and it started OK, but still didn't seen quite right. Still have to try the other DIs. This weekend!
With 198K on it I guess it could be the starter going south, but I've never had a starter die slowly--they usually just die on me.
Any thoughts? Thanks!
