AFAIK the factory fitment for years was a single piece. But the OE replacement parts and aftermarket are indeed multiple pieces and clamp or weld together.
My advice is to consider whether your car is being pampered or a functional daily driver. If it's really pampered, order up parts from Genuine SAAB (Talifierro Imports) or similar, in stainless, and make it really nice. If it's a daily driver (even well maintained), I would find a GOOD, recommended muffler shop and let them tell you what they can do and how much it will cost.
I ordered a "SAAB" muffler for my daughter's 2006 Sport Combi. It was labelled SAAB, but was really aftermarket, and it didn't fit properly, so I had to modify it. I spent time and extra money for a job that my skilled local muffler man could have done for me better and less expensively - but I only found him after the fact.
