Hi Anders,
I watched that video before going back outside, but it didn't help. My car has extra bits it didn't have; the aforementioned bracket plus what looked like the blower regulator mounted onto the filter cover.
After a short mental health break, I did get the job done. It would seem that the previous person to install the filter did actually have it in backwards. I don't know how they managed to get the cover back on, because I sure couldn't after putting the replacement in the same way. They also failed to reconnect the a/c hose to the glove box.
I still think it's ridiculous. I could replace the cabin filters on a fleet of fifty Saab 9000s in the time it would take to do one 9-5.
