My 9-5 is in pretty mint condition (perfect interior) and I've more or less babied it. Some minor upgrades (downpipes, exhaust, ECU) but nothing like an engine rebuild. Thus my receipts are all primary maintenance (although I just spent a bundle on fixing HVAC stuff). The car really has served me and my family well and had an honorable end. The NADA value was higher than what the insurance folks came back with so that was my main quibble, but they weren't worlds apart. I would have gone ballistic like you did if I rebuilt the engine and got lowballed. This is actually my worst fear with my 1985 SPG, which has been meticulously restored and converted to T5. I need to look into specialty insurance....
After I posted this message I did find another comp on AutoTrader that I sent in to the insurance company - $6800 mint condition Aero with 86K miles. Mine has 133K so maybe I can at least get the settlement up a bit and move on.
