Does (can) anyone else in your household drive the car ? If so, have them drive while you sit in the passenger seat and strain your ears to see whether you hear the whine, and to see if you can figure out where its source is located.
How many miles on your car? I ran my 2004 Acura TSX with MT to about 316K miles, and the last 40K or so I could hear a bit of transaxle/differential whine at some speeds.
I have often wondered about spending money on an "electronic ear" from Tooltopia, Harbor Freight, or some other source. They are not super expensive, but costly for what they are - simple microphones with magnets to hold them in place and let you switch between them while driving.
Sorry not to give you any concrete help.
