I have had good service from Optima Red Top batteries in my 2000 9-3, but since there was not a Red Top (that I could find) that would fit the 2008 9-5 I bought a few years back, when it needed a new battery I got a Bosch H6-AGM at PepBoys. It failed 6 months short of the 3 month warranty, so I had it replaced a year ago at PepBoys with the same Bosch H6-AGM last February.
The last few days, it seemed to crank a bit longer than usual and today, after sitting for a couple of hours it would not crank enough to start the 9-5. So, after a jump, I went back to PepBoys to get a replacement. Apparently they have had a lot of issues with the Bosch batteries and thus have stopped carrying them. They also said that a replacement battery under warranty does not start the warranty clock on the new replacement battery, but only carries as much warranty as was left on the original battery, if any. In 30 years of owning my own cars I have never heard that before about battery warranties, but then again, I have never had a battery really fail under warranty before these Bosch batteries.
I had not heard issues with the Bosch batteries before, but apparently the quality has gone down significantly. So.....what are good options in the H6 form factor for the 9-5? What are you all running with these days?
