weird high beam failure Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Thu, 5 Mar 2020 08:10:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I picked up an '07 9-5 wagon last night, and on the way home discovered the high beams don't work. I tried all the positions of the three-way switch. When I tried to activate them, the dash indicator would not come on (nor the actual lights, obviously). But what did happen is that the front fog lights go out, as you would expect. I took the orange lamp control relay out and saw the expected cracked solder joints at the connectors. After fixing those and reinstalling the relay, now the high beams and the dash indicator do come on momentarily but won't stay on. What I find confusing is that prior to fixing the solder joints, the car was recognising that the high beams should be on (as proven by the extinguishing of the fog lights). Now it seems to have taken one step forward and one step back. Should I order a new relay? What else could it be?
