high frequency whining from PS pump area. lots of VERY sticky oil colored goo on side of engine high up near the PS pump which doesn't feel like oil as it is extremely sticky, some on underside of mass air flow sensor hose, and on the delivery PS fluid hose below the PS pump, few other places. original PS pump on 1999 with 327k miles so I don't mind just replacing the pump but could leak actually be the delivery hose? I think that is the outlet hose though that is attached with a bolt at the bottom of the pump correct? so if that had a small leak the pump wouldn't whine correct? only if leak coming into the pump from the tank correct? drawing air in. I am ordering a pump but would any hose leaks also cause the pump to whine? I rotated the pump pulley with belt off. it MIGHT have a little play in it. extremely slight play. not sure how good one should feel. TIA.
