Thank you for your detailed response. The noise was not there until the last few miles driven. Luckily I was close to home and didn’t capture a whole bunch of unwanted attention!
I’ve already done some due diligence by removing the valve cover and inspecting the Valve guides that were accessible. I did utilize an endoscope but I could not find any obvious way to get down into the chamber to inspect the lower guide rails. The upper timing chain seems tight, however.
As advised by mechanic other items addressed were inspection of sump (clean), and head gasket r&r. He remarked it was one of the cleanest engines ( internally) he’s seen recently.
I’m not getting any indication of an oil pressure issue nor any leaking or burning. 153k.
For the record dry compression tests were ~190 psi in all 4 cyl.
As for the paint I used a high heat primer, Metalcast Base Coat, followed by a high heat clear coat. I really took my time to ensure the surfaces were completely free of grease and dirt, then finely sand rough prepped. Originally I went deep red but hated it!
