Congratulations. Sounds like you will be busy plus having fun.
Some answers on things i know only-
The SID does not have to be married. It can be "repaired" by cleaning the cable ends internally or by sending it to BBA Reman. There are videos on how to repair it. The ribbon cables contacts get oxidized and it stops working. If you replace it directly, use the same model as came out of the car. If the SID is making sounds (ignition on, turns signals, etc. it's probably only the cable ends that are the issue.
Guard your key with your life. Without it you can't get another key programmed to the car (which you already know). I've seen keys for sale on ebay. A dealer or anyone with a Tech2 can program. It should not need access to a laptop. for changes in 2002.
Don' forget to use Saab WIS OnLine to look stuff up.
