I'll second the strut mount suggestion. My 2000 made similar noises over bumps when the strut mounts went bad. I went to replace the mounts, bearings, and struts a couple of years ago, but one of the welded nuts on a mount broke, and I had to reuse one of the old ones. After I was done, I was pretty ticked that after all that, the noises were still there, until I remembered that one strut mount didn't get replaced. Once I got a new one and replaced it, the front end was silent, and has been since.
