I may have some good news. We drove the SAAB on Friday and Saturday and the Transmission doesn't fail until it gets good and hot. Drove 17.3 miles around the City before it failed the first time. Once failed, it seems to have to sit overnight to recover. So today (Sunday 11/20), I removed the TCM and put an Ice Pack around it with a rubber band. Installed it with Ice Pack and Drove the SAAB 30 miles including a stop at the Grocery Store where I left the car run. The Transmission never missed a beat. This leads me to believe that the TCM is defective and fails when it gets warm. This would be a great break as I really don't want to replace the Auto-box.
Tried searching for a replacement TCM but one wrecking yard told me the TCM I have was only used for 1 year, in the 2002 SAAB. My TCM has the following numbers: "51 64 280" and below that is "WBDE001810".
If I obtain a TCM with the correct numbers, will it be plug and play? Maybe it needs to be Married or programmed with a Tech 2 in which I don't have. Since we need the car ASAP, I think I will mount a Peltier cooler on the TCM so it doesn't warm up, which in theory, would prevent a failure. It will take a day or two to get the pieces for a chiller device.
Thanks for any pointers on locating a TCM and any other information.
