Guys, next time one has T/C off run a straight edge across the chain path width allowance in cover.
parelle to block part of the T?C cover under the motor mount bull horns forged bracket.
in 2005 I had one as well as a 2008 9.5. and I had one on a 9.3 also.
external patch is fine as above post said... I have used for this technique 15 years for cars out of warranty.
Dip Shit Saab under warranty, paid me for gasket R&R< then when came back leaking 2 weeks later, and I found the cast flaw where its sunken in this area- DSM said I must do new T/C for free. I still seethe
God damn saab warranty times and policies. ( I was dealer Tech 1977 - 2003 )
Best is to pull head and on new head gasket fill low section in this area with make a gasket Orange ( large gap ) or ultra silicone.
Saab engines have parts run defects or machinery engine build issues. 1997 and 1998 had cyl head bolts
( bolts 9 and 10 on the head torque swirl pattern ) 99 by timing Chest )) at 10 pounds or loose, i saw 30 of these over my years. as well as B motor and H motor #1 exhaust at ,013" consistently ( cold ) when warm quick check has 0.15"
The T/S low area measured .020" and with Naked steel gasket ( no extra sealant ) oil just flows out.
