Update: to post below. After more attempts, the lens assembly did insert properly. 2024 is off to a good beginning. Happy New Year to all SAAB fans.

Have new lens and base, (lamp socket and wiring are OK.) How do I fit new lens/base into the fender after connecting to wire harness? Tapered end of lens faces forward. The clip is on the front (tapered) end of the lens assembly. WIS says "fit the front edge then press in the back edge." Mine seems very tight after inserting the front and the back of the lens doesn't want to go in. Does the spring clip have to be depressed? I don't want to break the plastic parts.
My first SAAB project of the year is not going well so far!
