new TECH 2 reveals VIN not matching body VIN

For some reason, a new VIN was recorded on my TWICE/DICE or whatever, and shows up on the new Tech2 I just got for my 2000 9-5.
I don't know when it was changed -- I replaced the engine 10+- yrs ago. (I am going to check that VIN, soon, to see what car it supposedly matches up to.
I am about to replace the flooded TWICE -- then marry up the new TWICE/transponder, and then my keys and FOBs.
I am aware that other bits/pieces of the car marry up -- and the depth of the knowledge sort of stops there. Maybe also .... : Ignition coil; ABS brake, and more ?
I would assume that I could, for example, unmarry the radio, and then change the VIN back to normal, and then remarry the radio to my car. But if I change the VIN, I don't know what other things on the car need marrying ?
Are there other issues about correcting the VIN ? Do engine controls or parts rely on that number ? I recall the last time I was in MD, at a true saab dealer turned repair place, to put in the new radio, the tech guy tried fiddling with the VIN, but decided to leave the odd VIN in place.
Is it possible that it was changed with the engine replacement?
Does it actually matter what VIN is in there ?
Does it matter, however, if I am changing the TWICE ?
Any comments/warnings/suggestions appreciated !
