What is the switch to the left of the brake light switch?

I am replacing the brake light switch on my 2008 9-5 2.3t Sportcombi (automatic) this weekend to try and clear up some intermittent brake warning lights. (I had a similar problem in the past on my 2000 9-3 and it was the original brake light switch that eventually wore out.)

In the 9-5 I see that the brake pedal has a rectangular plate that presses on two switches...the brake light switch on the right and another electronic switch of some kind on the left. From various online diagrams I have not been able to determine what that other switch is so I do not even know how to look up that part if it turns out I need to replace it also.
