I agree. Relatively modern (last decade or more) DICs throw codes before catastrophic failure (I think anything since rev D anyway).

I'd look at battery, cables, etc ahead of the dic but definitely have a spare on hand. If it is old, it will happen. Also, if the plugs haven't been changed in 70k, I would probably do that anyway...
