As Fred mentioned, if you still have a coolant bypass, that could be an issue. My approach has been to simply replace the bypass valve with the do88 hose kit and not have to deal with that problem again.
It could leak from a variety of other places. I would ask your mechanic to pressure test the system if they haven't already.
Your ac not being as cold as ideal is probably a separate problem. Often the AC system can leak a bit and adding refrigerant can be a first step if there is no known leak, especially if it is still somewhat workng, it can be a really slow minor leak.
