Why not stainless?

How come no manufacturer (that I am aware of) is using stainless steel brake lines? Such a critical item with such a high probability of failure...
Another item is brake rotor dust shields - just had to replace the two rear ones and the front ones are not better. My Toyota are even worse in this regard. Just a little more of stainless steel with make the maintenance costs so much easier. Just a few dollars spent on better materials will almost guaranteed to save hundreds in the future. Just put all these upgraded features in some form advertisement and it will have a big influence on me.
At least Saab is using stainless guide brake calipers pins - they still look loke new on my 25 year old 9-5. Toyota/Lexus use regular zinc plated pins - I need to replace them about every 5 years. A used 9 year old Camry I got required a whole caliper replacement because of a rusted solid pin.
