Mine failed at 233K and took the CAT out with them. That was 10 years ago, and right before my office moved and my commute pattern moved to public transportation. It will turn 343K in the next day or so, and all has been well. The DICs I sourced in 2015 were when Wells was selling the original SEM DICs. I got very lucky at the time that the former Saab dealership across the street from my office just happened to have the correct V6 CAT gathering dust (they were now a Volvo dealer). It wasn’t cheap, but it’s going strong.
The conventional wisdom on DICs has been to not look to cut corners but to go with Genuine SAAB parts. I don’t know of a way to reliably bench test the DICs and their embedded T7 circuits, but honestly, for the $500- $600 in parts vs sourcing and replacing a CAT (and hoping an aftermarket one fits and passes emissions) I would go for the premium parts.
If you can isolate the misfire cylinders to the odd or even numbered bank, you might be able to identify the better of the two DICs to keep as a spare.
Good luck.
