Thanks to all who took the trouble of responding.
Let me clarify some points:
I live in Istanbul, Turkey
The car has really 16.000 km on it, not 160.000 km. as one of you jokingly suggested.
No, I didn't use even one drop of leaded fuel.(I am the sole driver of the car, so I am sure of it)
The importers of the SAAB cars in Turkey are OPEL Turkey and THEY told me (not the garage) that the warranty on the car had already expired.
After getting the car back from the garage, I did about 150km, half of it on the freeway, never exceeding 130km/h, and the other half on secondary roads not going faster than 100km/h and my fuel consumption was exactly 7.5 litres/100km. Almost unbelievable with a 200HP,automatic V6. So I think there is nothing wrong with the fuel system, no over rich mixture damaging the converter as someone suggested.
After reading your posts, I called the dealer on the phone and he told me the following:
The code returned by Tech2 was P0420
He had made all the necessary checks according to the service manual and found no other problem.
Both of the oxygen sensors had checked out fine.
Well, at this point, I still don't know how to proceed. Incidentally, the check engine light still remains OFF and the car runs as usual perfectly.
Any new thoughts, anyone?
Regards,
Ergin Serter
