I just gave back a car just like yours. The 2.8Q was a great cruiser and handled well but torque was embarassingingly non-existent. I've now got a Linear 2.3T and yes, torque steer is always lurking. With an Aero, I would think it would be an almost constant occurence, not to mention wheels constantly spinning. I don't know exactly what the TCS and ESP are supposed to do, but they don't stop me from doing burnouts.
It's been a real revelation to drive a car with a torquey engine. I have to keep remembering to take it easy on the gas when making a turn from a stop because the car wants to fly! With the Audi I felt like I was on a horse that I had to keep prodding; with the Saab, I have to keep holding it back! The engine and tranny work very, very well together. I think the biggest change you'll find is the interior and the controls. The 9-5 is a dated design overdue for a makeover and it shows (the cabin in the new 9-3 is more like it). There's no storage space in the cabin, nothing in the car lights up unless the headlights are on, the HK is OK but it's no Bose, the windows don't auto-up.
Have you asked over at audiworld.com? I'm sure they have lots of differing opinions.
