Hi --
I went with a linear wagon, bought it about 3 weeks ago from Spreens in Hackensack (and can recommend David Weiss to deal with there).
Yep, in terms in front interior storage -- the car is lacking. I had a japanese car before -- of course as I cleaned it out -- I realized I was storing a good chunk of my hall closet there! ;-)
Have 2 kids -- plenty of room for them. Took the car on vacation to OUter Banks of NC -- beach - 400+ miles away. The 3 of us, and friend for daughter (so imagine stuff for 2 teen age girls!) fit everything in the car we needed -- include fishing rods, skim boards, bogey boards, blankets, towels, beach toys (I also have a 6 year old!).
It's NOT a minivan -- but has lots of room. (BTW -- my former wife's T&C minivan could swallow an entire living room whole! -- while there is no coolness factor there -- nothing beats a minivan in terms of space & prcticality)
Snow -- well, I'm planning to buy Nokian Hakka Q's for this winter. Also struggled with need for 4wd (not for handling, but for winter driving). I live on South Mountain (right up agains the reservation) -- so its a consideration.
Here's what my neighbors found
-- one traded her ML320 for FWD minivan -- ML320 "crap" in the snow in her opinion -- so 4wd no panacea
-- other neighbor traded BMW 5 series for black 9-5 sedan, just before last winter (which was mild of course) -- he made it up and down the hills (and a damn steep driveway) -- seemingly with little problem. said he felt more safe & secure than his bimmer -- so Saab gets points
I am very happy with my car -- great on the vacation trip. Extraordinary mileage (28 mpg) if the car computer is to be believed.
BTW -- I got the charcoal interior -- its a bit serious, but I felt with the kids it would not show dirt.
Good luck with your decision --
Pete
