I did a lot of investigation into the Uhltronics device about a year ago. The technology is sound and there are several satisfied owners here.

The Uhltronics device allows you to use your cell phone (restricted to certain manufacturers) and keep your OnStar service. Your cellphone operates on its regular network and you pay whatever your carrier charges, it has nothing to do with OnStar in that respect. The Uhltronics device does "integrate" your cell phone into the car's system, meaning that your calls are routed to the speakers, radio is muted on incoming calls, etc. The reason I did not go with the Uhltonics device is that it does not give you voice dialing. You still have to punch your numbers or use your phone book just like you do with the phone in your hand. It's probably a pretty good setup if you take a lot of calls but seemed cumbersome to me if you had to make a lot of calls.

Another option is that some cell carriers now have voice dial options. I would expect that you should be able to speak loudly enough while the phone was in it's cradle to place the call. Maybe that can solve my voice dial dilemna, but my carrier doesn't offer the service so I haen't investigated anything anymore. I would be interested to hear if anyone has had any success doing this.

Also, there was a lot of discussion about the Cellport device a while back. I never was able to get my questions answered to my satisfaction from them or the local dealer they sent me to. As best I could figure it out, this thing did provide voice dialing, played through the speakers, etc. I never got a confident "sure we've done that" response about radio mute and I never got a difinitive answer if I could also keep OnStar. Maybe someone didn't give up like I did and can tell us.
