I believe that you have more properly described the status of warranty and service coverage than Bob V above. Unless he personally is planning to pay for any rejected warranty claims,he would be better off listening to the manufacturer who ultimately doles out the $ rather than an aftermarket reseller who obviously will not want to imply in his sales pitch that his products are not covered.
In todays world of highly complex systems that are in some cases interrelated in ways that the consumer cannot understand, a manufacturer issues a warranty for a product in the form in which it was manufactured, and also stipulates what maintenance must be performed to continue that coverage.
Taking an engine and upping it's output to values 20-30 percent higher than the factory ever intended for everyday street use is not as easy as it used to be in the days of "mill the head, change the cam, and put on a bigger carb". Manufacturers have to make sure that a motor meets OBD 2 specs, emission controls etc., and has to test a certain number of vehicles to make sure they will meet the specs for the required 50 thousand miles.
Why in the world would they want to pay for some independent's mistakes when that individual does not shoulder the burden of liability for his actions?
It is quite obvious to me that a manufacturer could easilly claim that virtually any drivetrain related failure or premature wear item could be traced to running the output of a motor at levels above those which it has been tested and certified for.
Perhaps Bob V. should investigate the aviation business and see just how well controled and regulated the building and modification of just about anything that goes into an airplane is. More power means more heat. You cannot do anything anymore just by the seat of your pants! Manufacturers deserve the right to fully test and document any performance of their products before being expected to pay for unexpected failures that are not of their own doing.
