I have just picked up my oct 98 95- 2.0lpt from it's 52k service and I am shocked to say the least. I was expecting "advice" (meaning needs replacement in near future )on some items, such as tyres and possibly break pads. However, I practically went into a state of shock when i picked up the car and discovered the list of items which the dealer is "advising" me on.
1 New Exhaust system - the dealer informs me the metal they use nowadays is "not as good quality material as was once used to make exhausts".
2. Front and rear disc pads -excessively scarred and need replacement - "that's from the excess breaking required in motorway driving". I see the point and inform the dealer that the majority of my driving is on the motorway.
3. Clutch hard, the dealer informs me that " there is some life left in the clutch but the hardness is as a result of a lot of town driving and you may feel it slip in the near future " - pls reference 2 above. I reiterate to the dealer "errrr , but I hardly drive around town as majority of miles are on motorway". so as if to add insult to injury the dealer informs me that " Ah well you've done pretty well to get to 50k out of a clutch".
4. Drive belt - From the service book this needs to be replaced after 60k. hmmm
So to sum up the total cost for all of the above, and not including the cost of labour is UK£1736 - thankfully I was sitting down at the time.
Is this just my story or are there others with similar experiences?
