Hey Jase,
Yesterday, my best friend called just before the Sopranos came on and
I didn't have the heart to tell him I had to go. So, I missed half
the show. I'll catch it again today. It looks like a GREAT episode.
So, uncle Jun' didn't get his dismissal huh? It wasn't for lack of trying
or for lack of acting virtuosity! :-) Some juror is going to have his
knee caps broken :-)
Current supposed troubles of Saab bespeak of really poor marketing by
Saab. Before the current round of commercials, the only time I really
noticed Saab on TV is the terrible commercial with two ugly guys about
9-5 Linear lease. Sex sells baby! Get out those scantily clad
beautiful women draping themselves over the hood of a 9-5! Also, what
kind of a marketing name is LINEAR! When Saab is reorganized, the
marketing division should get the ax first!
Of the BMW's, ONLY 540 and M cars can challenge a Saab on the highway.
BMWs really DO handle better on the twisty stuff than Saab but not by
much. It would take a Jason 0w-40, TxG or a b.flippo to exploit the
difference in handling between a 9-5 and a 530.
So, you get better highway performance than a BMW, better fuel economy
than a BMW, much more luxury than a comparably priced (in real dollars)
BMW, much more usable space of all kinds, much much better wet traction,
AND handling just shy of that of a BMW.
Doesn't that sound like a compelling sales pitch? If the public is
unbelieving, the end of the pitch could say something like "Take a test
drive and see for yourself!"
I personally think that such a poor job of marketing NEEDS some shaking
up, and if the current management team was unwilling to wield the axe,
it is a GOOD thing that GM is wielding the axe FOR Saab. It's like
a surgery to remove the appendix. Usually the appendix does not do
anything except consume resources. It's usually left alone, but once
it starts to cause trouble for the organism (organization), it's out
of there. When someone goes under the knife, it's not a pretty picture.
Same thing metaphorically is happening to Saab. It's not a pretty
picture, but the organization is healthy. It just has a marketing
appendage that's making a negative contribution.
thanks
Jae
