I don't yet own one, but my Aero Wagon is on order.
I drove an A6 2.7T Sedan just to get the feel of the drivetrain. It felt very solid, though heavy. When you hit the gas, it seemed to take a while to get moving. I don't think this was lag - rather the engine tuning and the extra mass of the AWD.
The Aero by comparison feels lighter (because it is) and much more nimble and responsive. The acceleration at 60 mph in 5th is practically instantaneous and authoritative.
My decision was easy. I wanted a wagon with a manual transmission and a powerful engine. I wanted a simple drivetrain that I could work on myself without major financial or physical trauma, and FWD if I couldn't get AWD.
I did not care for the Volvo V70 T5 (my only other real option), though its looks are much improved over the older cars. The Audi A6 Avant is only available with the anemic 2.8 and a Tiptronic tranny (though the S6 Avant is rumored to be here someday...).
There wasn't much doubt about which car I wanted when I was done.
Have you driven an Aero? That will probably decide things for you. It feels wonderful.
