I think that on the 2.3 lpt the sensor is mounted on the upper side of the exhaust outlet from the turbo, so given the heat here I think it would have to be a big oil problem to foul the sensor, but over time might happen.
But something I wonder about with the ion current sensing taken in the combustion chamber - what happens if an engine gets old and oil enters the combustion chamber either through leaky valve seals or rings ? I would think that this would throw the trionic into a tizzy. best to keep the engine well maintained, and the I4 holds up very well if one does this.
Could be just one of the reasons that no one else is using this ion sensing technology, even though Delco Electronics, not Saab owns the ion sensing technology.
