Saab makes well rounded cars -- not the best in any one catagory, but near the top in every one though. For instance, there are faster cars, but will they still run and look good with 150k mi? There are others that will run and look good with 150 k mi but lack character and driving enjoyment. My point is that there are many ways to measure cars.

For the money, Saab Aero offers a very fast and comfortable daily driving car. It really holds 5 adults plus cargo. The rear seat folds to make more trunk space. The styling fits in at both Target and Pottery Barn. Saab's lines and redrawing of the lines always creates entrenched loyalists and converts alike.

So, if you are attracted to the current 9-5, buy one. A lot can change in a few years. But, in that GM has little extra money to give Saab R&D cash, I cannot imagine that the basic car will change much (ie: new 9-5 won't be a hatch or semi-suv.) Changes will probably be off-the-shelf (std HID, maybe a diesel offering, blue tooth, built in entertainment system, 6 spd...you get my point.)

Others have posted here that Audi is experiencing electrical problems, BMW and Volvo have build issues, Accura & Lexus are boring. Saab has some direct ignition cassettes failing and gasket torque problems. Drive them all. Each has strengths as well. You will find one that you keep as a benchmark for comparing others. That's the one you want to get into every day.

Enjoy!
