I bought an '02 Aero on the last day of 2002. After leasing a 2000 9-5 SE and driving it 50K miles, I was ready to move up the line and buy. I test drove Maxima SE, Infiniti G35, Audi A4 3.0 and a BMW 325IT (wagon). In the end I was hooked on Saab performance and value, and I have not in any way been disappointed.
The upgrades in '02 were major improvements to a 3-year-old model that needed them. The performance difference between the 2.3 HOT and 3.0 V6 is phenomenal (and I'm one who only occasionally pushes sport mode ). My brother's '02 M3 may surpass in HP and handling prowess, but he paid $16K more than I did - and he has less space and torque. Appearance-wise, the Aero is low and aggressive, but understated and classy; far from the stodgy Volvo, the austere Audi, the ostentatious Jaguar. The combination of looks, performance, spaciousness, comfort (and year-end price) made me one very satisfied customer.
