Cooknight, 1.8t motors get along fine at 2 bar, pumping out 270-300HP with a bigger turbo such as a Garrett and some intake/exhaust mods (no long block mods needed). The big limit in a stock 1.8T is the tiny K03 turbo - limited to about 1 bar boost - the engine itself is bullet-proof.
Though most folks modding a 1.8T just put in the chip - removing the "LPT" restrictions and boosting to a modest 190-200HP. Some take the next step and install a K04 turbo and bigger exhaust, but that only adds another 15-20HP (the K04 is not much bigger, and shares parts like the shaft and bearings with the K03). Beyond that, it starts to get expensive, and I doubt many folks go further, but reputable tuners make'em if you want. I'm sure tuners for Saabs have similar packages for the Aero.
I don't know why you seem to dump on the 1.8T and 2.7T so much, they are fine Euro turbo engines just like your 2.3T. Is it because they both made Wards' top ten engine list again, and Saab didn't?
