My cousin's '01 BMW 325i (a modern fuel injected car) is stick shift and the RPM drops like a rock between shifts! It's hard to shift that car smoothly (ie, quickly) when cold because the gearbox is stiff. So by the time you get the lever into the next gear, the RPM is already at idle, making for a clumsy shift.
So it is indeed _very_ possible for a modern fuel injected car to have the rpm drop quickly between shifts, if the manufacturer so desires.
As for stick shift with ABS--SAAB and others have been making stick shift cars with ABS for more than a decade now, and I haven't heard of any problems with this combination. Seems the engineers have it figured out!
The only engineering challenge I've read regarding ABS has to do with certain four-wheel-drive systems. IIRC, it has to do with the center differential being locked or not; I think the system has to take that into consideration, or release the center differential lock automatically to preserve directional stability. I could be wrong about that. But I believe the Mitsubishi Montero (aka Pajero in other markets) has several ABS programs to choose from, depending on the gear range selected, and status of the differential lock(s).
