Hi Jae,
Sorry for the bother.... I have driven nearly 1.2 million miles since I got my license in 1974. I try to drive with hyper-responsibility - but at a fast clip. I have gotten two speeding tickets (1981, 1993). Radar enforcement is primarily about revenue enhancement and driver risk - and is highly arbitrary (I know - having been a police officer for 3 years before going to grad school). I have always used a radar detector - I find it as useful on back roads as on the interstates. It most certainly does NOT replace responsible driving - but it adds another level of surveilance. In fact, my Valentine 1 has often let me know well in advance so that I can prepare for the massive "brake-dancing" by other motorists that will be happening once they become aware of the trap. I read the radar detector tests in Car & Driver and upgrade as soon as a new winner is announced (my old Escort 8500 sits in the SUV). I like to have a rabbit in front of me when I am on the highway - as I can be reasonably assured of a chirp from the "instant-on" radar traps.
Good luck
eric
