Shortly after I purchased my 99 9-5, saabcatalog.com had the sport exhaust on sale for +/- $200 off, so I took the plunge. I installed myself in less than 45 minutes from the time I put the ramps on the floor to the time I hung them back on the wall. Very easy. The hardest part was the solo removal of the stock piece - it is one piece and pretty awkward. Installing the new exhaust was a breeze, first hang the pipe that connects to the catalytic converter, connect it, hang the back piece with the new muffler, connect it to the first piece, and you are done.

The sound difference is noticeable, no joke. With the windows up and on the highway, you will notice a growl. With the windows down and around town, it is even more noticeable, but very tolerable. The sound is more throaty, not tinny like the mufflers the Riceboys use.

I believe that the performance improved, but I'm not sure that in itself would warrant the cost. For me, it was worth it, but I considered three things:
1)I like the throatier, basser sounding exhaust note.
2)The performance did improve, but we are still not talking Aero.
3)I figured on a fractional increase in gas mileage. I'm not certain I realised that gain, but logic tells me that the mileage must be a bit better with less backpressure.

Good luck with your decision. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
