The GM affiliate price is for those who are employees of GM or immediate family members of GM employees. It allows you to purchase a Saab for 10% off MSRP. This means you get the car below invoice. For example, the price I am looking at under this program for a 2001 Aero 5 speed with silver metallic paint and heated seats is around 37,700 or so. I am told even the salesmen can't get the cars at this price if they buy one themselves (maybe I've been mislead).
Obviously it's a good deal so there's no wiggle room. They can't knock off anything more than the 10%. Clearly GM makes it worth the dealers' while to offer this deal so don't think they aren't making money off the car simply because they sell below invoive. I know they are compensated for it.
Incidentally, if you buy a GM car under the program (yech!) the discount is as high as 17%! I am sure there are some okay Pontiacs, Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles out there but as far as I am concerned none of them come close to the beauty, style and elegance of a Saab 9-5.
That's a lot of savings simply because my little brother is GM engineer freezing his ass off in Michigan!
