Here's what I meant: I negotiated the price of the car. Then, when I looked into financing, I found out there was a $2k incentive on leases at the time (NOT offered on purchases). The dealer deducted this $2k from the negotiated price in order to come up with the "captial cost" on the lease paperwork. The final price (negotiated amount minus $2k) was less than 90% of the car's MSRP.

I found out about the incentive from a different dealer while I was doing research. I don't know if B&B would have just told me about it if I hadn't found out on my own -- when I first talked to them (Feb) there was no incentive. The next time I talked to them (Mar) I already knew about the incentive. My guess is that if buyers (OK, leasers) don't know about the incentives and are willing to pay the price offered without the incentive, then many dealers will keep the incentive as additional profit. However, it truly is a guess -- I really don't know how they operate with respect to these incentives.
