Its an easy conversion that does not preclude the original gasoline system, but not really practical.
A few years back Arizona gave a sizeable tax credit to SUV's that underwent a conversion to be able to run on natural gas ( I think it was as high as 50%). The wise guys in the industry added a 1 lb tank of LPG and the required additional "carb" to meter the gas, with a switch to turn off the regular fuel supply. That qualified the SUV for the tax credit, although no one ever used the LPG system. Almost bankrupted the state. LPG gives less hp per equivelent unit of fuel, but performance is otherwise similar to regular gasoline with no damage to the engine.
The distribution system doesn't permit a widespread use of the dual fuel system. Around here in NY, some utility company vans and trucks are LPG only. But they have short commutes and daily access to a readily available supply.
