CNG (compressed natural gas) was somewhat popular in the US in the early to mid 90's as an alternative fuel for cars and trucks. CNG is a gaseous fuel - not a liquid. It is stored in special tanks at 3000 to 3600 psi. One of the biggest drawbacks is that the tank is rather large for the amount of fuel it can hold. This is why most natural gas vehicles can run on either CNG or gasoline at the flip of a switch. You just don't have much range on CNG, and you can't always count on being close to a CNG filling station when the tank runs out.
Changes in EPA regulations pretty much killed the CNG vehicle movement in the US in the late 90's, but Europe might be different.
