Today my DI Cassette went. For all the lights buzzers, dingers, and flashers that Saab uses to notify me when one of my five high mounted brake lights goes out, there was a total lack of warning. The failure was NOT at startup. I had been driving for three hours on the Interstate and had just gotten off onto a secondary road. I was pulling up to a stop light (10 mph) when the car shuddered and completely died. Incidentally enough, the car died within two miles of a Saab dealer (I was 350 miles from home at the time). I bought the part (the sob's charged me $445) and installed it myself on the side of the road, in a full suite and tie, with a borrowed ratchet from the mechanic.
I'm kicking myself for not buying that spare DI Cassette now.
I did take the opportunity to talk with the super friendly mech. there who gave me LOTS of tips for 9-5 maintenance.
