Picking up the Saab on Monday: Trade-in car question

Okay- here's the scoop. They agreed on a trade-in value of $1200 for my 97 Tracer with 96K on it, sight-unseen. (we didn't bring my car that night). So, he says that after the mechanic takes a look at it, and if there is any damage or problems found, that they will just deduct it from the original amount estimated for the trade-in ($1,200).
I check out the Kelly Blue Book (retail) value for the car with all the mileage and considering it in "good" condition, and THEY say the retail is $3,335. Granted, I could have haggled the other night because I knew I could get more than $1,2K for my car, but figured it wouldn't have done much good. In addition, there is one small problem that they will see - my check engine light is on, and HAS been on for about 3 years! I had the sensor replaced twice and it still came on. The last time, I just left it. I have been taking care of the Tracer and getting serviced regularly so I don't think they should find anything else wrong with the car. The body and interior are in greate condition.
What do I do when they say, "oh, we have to knock $100 off because we need to get the sensor replaced and check for engine problems..." I feel like saying "forget it! You can get at least $3,000 for this car and if anything you should be giving me more than $1,200"... but knowing me they will convince me otherwise. UGH -- and will a SAAB dealer really give a hoot about a stupid $1,200 Mercury Tracer trade-in????
I don't want to get screwed - basically. So, does anyone know what the best way is to handle this? We signed the papers, but we were still waiting for bank approval (got today). Is my price already etched in stone? You can tell I am totally ignorant with this.
I am picking up my new 9-5 on Monday night, so if anyone has any comments/suggestions, please - post away. Thanks!
